Gerald Rosales comes from a famous golfing family in the Philippines – his sister is US LPGA Tour star Jennifer. The pair has long been two of the most talented golfers from their country and with time on their side, much is still expected of them. Rosales has always impressed when playing overseas but the tournament where he has tasted the most success is his national Open. He won the Philippine Open in 2000 and finished outright second twice in 2005 and 2007. His popular victory at his home open came just a year after turning professional. Jennifer, whom he keeps in touch with regularly as a source of inspiration, actually caddied for him when he claimed the title. The same year he also finished third in the Singapore Open, launching his professional career in emphatic fashion. Rosales, who regularly represents his country in the World Cup, was a two-time individual gold medallist in the 1997 and 1999 Southeast Asian Games. He also won a silver medal in the 1998 Asian Games in both the team and individual categories. Rosales also enjoyed a brilliant amateur career, tasting victory in both the Philippine and Singapore Amateur Championships. |
