Up-and-coming golfer Guido van der Valk displayed his golfing prowess when he shot a superb nine-under-par 61 in the second round of the Hero Honda Indian Open in 2008. The Dutchman eventually finished fifth to record his best finish on the Asian Tour. He had two other top-10s that year to comfortably keep his card and is expected to build on those performances in the ensuing seasons. He started playing golf at the age of seven with his brothers and represented the Netherlands for five years during his amateur days. One of his main highlights was finishing eighth in the 2000 Eisenhower Trophy individual category. That year he was also a quarter-finalist in the British Amateur Championship – a performance which earned him several offers from U.S. colleges. He turned down the chance to play in the States when he turned professional and justified that decision by winning two titles on home soil in 2002. |
